About the Role

The People & Culture Business Partner is a key advisor within the Defence Segment, and closely aligned with the People & Culture team, responsible for aligning people & culture strategies with business objectives. This role drives initiatives that enhance employee engagement, build capability, and foster a high-performance culture. Acting as a trusted partner to leadership, the position provides expert guidance on all P&C matters to support organisational growth and contract success.

Key Skills

  • Implement the Pacific P&C strategy within the Defence contract
  • Implement local P&C initiatives for the Defence contract, aligned to the Pacific P&C strategy
  • Customer-Centric Problem Solving: Resolve issues proactively to deliver exceptional service.
  • Employee Relations: Coach and advise managers to maintain a respectful, productive workplace.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensure accuracy in P&C processes, documentation, and compliance.
  • Cultural Competence: Work effectively across diverse backgrounds, handling sensitive matters with respect.
  • Results-Oriented: Prioritise issues, create practical solutions, and collaborate for successful outcomes.
  • Analytical & Reporting Skills: Monitor and report on workforce metrics, retention, and engagement trends.
  • DISP Support: ability to collate data into concise reporting as required by Defence or internal leadership

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary P&C partner for Defence contracts, delivering end-to-end P&C support.
  • Support security clearances process and DISP reporting in compliance with AGSVA protocols.
  • Partner with leaders to embed HR strategies into operational plans and drive engagement.
  • Support recruitment and workforce planning to meet contractual and policy requirements.
  • Lead Culture improvement initiatives, support the development of teams through training and personal development plans
  • Drive change management and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with HR policies, legislation, and Defence standards.
  • Support the performance review process and provide coaching to the ISS management team
  • Manage employee relations issues, in conjunction with ISS management team.
  • Maintain accurate role profiles and support training and development programs.
  • Respond promptly to operational challenges, complaints, and urgent staffing needs.
  • Promote an inclusive, respectful workplace culture across all contract sites.

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in a senior HR Leadership role, preferably with Defence experience.
  • Experience in leadership development initiatives to build a pipeline of future leaders
  • Experience working in multi-site and remote site locations

Compliance: Must be an Australian Citizen and be eligible for a Baseline AGSVA Clearance (at minimum)
